BULIK APATOT
are dome that are breed in the backyard (real backyard) of a small time hands-on cocker/breeder from Puerto Princesa City in the mainland of Palawan, Philippines. A guy who dreamed of having a farm someday and may die dreaming of having one for his bulik ( hope not).
BREEDING STYLE
His breeding approach is not by the book or against the norms. It's a multiple multi-crossing approach that may raise the eyebrows of those breeding gurus.
STAYING ALIVE
Breeding his bulik since 1999 and still survived up to present due to a winning percentage that is comfortable to support his small cocking activity.
VISION
After falling in love with bulik even before he starts breeding, it was in this backyard breeder’s vision that someday Philippine cockfighting WILL NO LONGER BE DOMINATED by reds and greys but also by chickens that are considered off-color like BULIK.
NOT FIGHITNG BIG
The breeder had his own level and happy to be belonged to the MASANG SABUNGERO than those who are elite but not being blessed with resources, keeps away from fighting those backyard breed bulik for big events. If only a rich man, he could be the first one to fight them in big league before others could do it.
BACKYARD IMPACT TO THE INDUSTRY
Even in his little own backyard capacity, he might be considered as one of those who POPULARIZED BULIK in PHILIPPINE COCKFIGHTING. Since 2005, some of his backyard produced bulik went across the nation as they were sold thru the internet for breeding and fighting purposes. Influence is a factor to let others cockers like and learned to love bulik.
FUTURE
Sticking with the line till the rest of his cocking life and enjoy the thrill of backyard breeding the bulik apatot in a limted number.
WHY THE NAME BULIK APATOT?
Apatot in the real sense is a local name for a herbal fruit. Back in December of 1999, my first time to join a derby with my breed using a dark legged bulik stag in a cock derby, I told the cockpit employee to list my entry name as BULIK Y2K due to the well publicized year 2000 virus but all of a sudden I asked him to changes it later to BULIK APATOT which creates an erasure to the entry list. I remember the drinks that my office mate is drinking which is from boiled apatot fruit. I don't know exactly the reason why I used it, it just I coined the term and it all started there. The entry, by the way, comes with a loss and a win against a prominent cocker by that time.
